Today's round-up includes news on a sales milestone for the 50 Cent video game, an important appointment from mobile firm Player X, and a retro delight for Street Fighter fans from Capcom, as well as a new Letter To The Editor, the latest GameSetWatch posts, plus today's product news and Gamasutra job postings. - Vivendi Universal Games has posted sales of over 1 million units of 50 Cent: Bulletproof, the game based on super-popular gangsta rapper 50 Cent and his G-Unit crew. Despite getting sub-50% averages on score aggregator GameTab, "Gamers and 50 fans alike have enthusiastically responded to the groundbreaking fusion of frenetic gameplay and the lyrical imagery of the exclusive 50 Cent music tracks in 50 Cent: Bulletproof," according to VUG chief strategy and marketing officer Cindy Cook. "The strong sales of Bulletproof underscore the undeniable appeal of the artist, his music and the engaging interactive experience that this game delivers." - Mobile phone game publisher Player X has announced that Lars Becker has joined the company as its Chief Operating Officer. His role at the company will involve overseeing Player X's mobile video operations and integrating the company's global operations. Prior to Player X, Becker was the co-founder of Flytxt, a mobile phone-based marketing company, and served as Chairman of the UK Mobile Marketing Association. In addition, Player X has named Russell Marke as its new financial director, and hired new account managers for southern and northern Europe. - Capcom announced the Street Fighter Alpha Anthology for PlayStation 2, which collects the arcade versions of Street Fighter Alpha, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold, Street Fighter Alpha 3, and the cutesy spinoff Pocket Fighter. The games will be based on the arcade originals, and will not include additions later made to home versions. The game follows the successful Street Fighter Anniversary Collection for PS2 and Xbox, the latter version of which featured online play over Xbox Live. Street Fighter Alpha Anthology is scheduled for release in summer 2006. - The latest Letter To The Editor has Laura J. Peterson exclaiming of yesterday's interview with female-centric mobile firm LimeLife: "From my perspective as a female gamer and game designer and educator, the Kristin McDonnell article made me laugh, for some of its vague references to "studies" and "research", and curse, because I am personally getting so frustrated and angry by the way we... continually perpetuate this notion that... women just can't get enough of puzzle games with pink sparkly packaging." - The latest posts on Gamasutra sister weblog GameSetWatch include info on a new website about classic game magazines, suggestions on how reality shows can affect game design, and news of a new weblog about physics-based games. - Also updated today: product news including Scenomics' announcement of the Scenome 1.0 modeling software platform, and information on Cascada Mobile's TAG referral distribution technology, plus the latest Gamasutra job postings from companies including Blizzard Entertainment, Blue Fang Games, Disney Buena Vista Games, Firaxis Games, JAKKS Pacific, Metrowerks, Midway Games, Surreal Software, Turner, Ubisoft, and WMS Gaming.
