Online reports have emerged suggesting that publisher Tecmo is to release a new
Fatal Frame (aka
Project Zero) game for the Wii, with
killer7 and
No More Heroes studio Grasshopper Manufacture taking on development duties.
An article on website 1Up suggests that
work on the game will begin once Grasshopper Manufacture complete work on the Wii exclusive
No More Heroes. Although not explicitly stated, the new
Fatal Frame is also implied to be exclusively for the Wii.
Tecmo has increasingly adopted Nintendo formats in recent years, with exclusive titles such as
Rygar: The Battle of Argus for the Wii and
Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword for the Nintendo DS.
The
Fatal Frame series of survival horror games are widely regarded as one of the most atmospheric of all survival horror franchises. In addition, the basic gameplay mechanics, which involve taking photographs of angry spirits, are thought to be a good match for the Wii’s control system.
Grasshopper Manufacture CEO Goichi Suda (aka Suda 51) indicated at the 2007 Game Developers Conference that the developer was working on two additional titles for the Wii after
No More Heroes, of which the new
Fatal Frame is presumably one.
