Although it's just
gone into administration, UK-based budget software developer Oxygen Games won't have to lay off a single staffer, thanks to an 11th-hour purchase of its assets by sales and distribution firm OG International.
"OG International is a worldwide sales and distribution company which sells products to over 40 countries and is a perfect home for Oxygen’s casual products," OGI CEO and former Oxygen boss Jim Scott
explained to UK trade site MCV. "The acquisition makes good commercial sense, and secures jobs at a critical time of the year."
According to the report, OGI will market and sell Oxygen games effective immediately, and 13 former Oxygen employees have joined the company.
In July 2008, Oxygen announced the formation of the wholly-owned U.S. branch dubbed O-Games. Oxygen's games include
Safar'Wii, Music for Everyone, and
Cate West: The Vanishing Files. Founded in 2004, the company is headquartered in Northamptonshire, England.
Earlier this year, Oxygen put its London studio up for sale, and pulled out of internal game development. The company, which says it has launched "100s of products … on Sony Playstation 2, Sony Portable, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 and PC CD Rom", told press outlets yesterday it had entered administration.
