Japan-based Dynasty Warriors house Koei said that it is establishing a Hanoi, Vietnam-based game development studio, in an effort to take advantage of lower labor costs in the region, according to translated Japanese reports. The Nikkei Sangyou Shimbun paper reported (as translated by andriasang.com), said Koei's Vietnam studio will open in mid-September and will be aptly named Koei Tecmo Vietnam. The report said the studio will grow from around 20 or 30 employees to a planned 100 in three years. In November 2008, fellow Japanese developer and Ninja Gaiden publisher Tecmo said it would be merging with Koei in a $207 million deal. But according to the report, the new Vietnam studio will technically be a subsidiary of Koei instead of Koei Tecmo Holdings. While the new studio will be based in Vietnam, employees will train in Japan and China, the report said. Koei plans to invest ¥50 million ($527,000) of capital into the studio. In February this year, Koei announced that it would boost its Singapore presence by adding another 30 to 60 developers to that development studio.
