Retailer Best Buy is poised to release this coming Sunday an 80GB PlayStation 3 bundle that includes the high-profile action games
Metal Gear Solid 4 from Konami and Sony's own
Killzone 2 for $400, according to online reports.
A photo on weblog Kotaku
shows packaging (pictured) indicating that there is indeed a PS3 bundle with
Killzone 2 and
Metal Gear Solid 4 ready to hit shelves.
A media rep for Best Buy did not immediately return Gamasutra's call for confirmation of the bundle. An employee at a Midwest Best Buy denied knowledge of the bundle, but an employee at a New York City Best Buy said that the bundle exists, but there is no specified release date. "Hopefully soon," she said.
Metal Gear Solid 4, released in June 2008, currently retails for $29.99 at Best Buy, while the Guerrilla Games-developed
Killzone 2, released in February this year, retails for $59.99. An 80GB PlayStation 3 retails for $399.99, bringing the value of the bundle to about $490.
Sony has opted to take the strategy of "adding value" to its console offerings instead of initiating an outright hardware price drop. Other games in past PS3 bundles include
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune,
Metal Gear Solid 4 (by itself), and
LittleBigPlanet.
