Watchmen script writer David Hayter is to found his own production company for games, film, TV and the Internet – according to online reports. Although there has been no official announcement, a report in Hollywood trade paper Variety suggests that Hayter will team with producer Benedict Carver to form Dark Hero Studios. The new company plans to work on a variety of cross media action, sci-fi and horror projects. Hayter is best known to video game fans as the voice of Metal Gear’s Solid Snake, but is also a successful scriptwriter - with credits on films such as X-Men, The Scorpion King, X-Men 2 and the recent Watchmen. He is also working on a film adaptation of Capcom’s Lost Planet and will make his directorial debut with werewolf movie Slaughter’s Road. According to Variety, the first project at Dark Hero is movie Demonology, which Hayter will both write and direct. Other planned video game and comic book projects have not been named, though. The studio’s independent financing has apparently yet to be finalized, but will be based on pre-sales and equity deals."Many people would love to have the studio-based producer gig, but if you want to build asset value through a library, you have to be more entrepreneurial and avoid giving away a lot of rights upfront," said Carver. "David will create, write and direct movies and TV series for the company, but he'll also be a magnet for other writers and directors to work with us."
