Renowned Pan's Labyrinth film director Guillermo del Toro is reportedly on the verge of signing a deal with publisher THQ to create "technically and narratively very interesting" video games,
says the Los Angeles Times, citing "people familiar with the matter."
THQ in particular is focused on efforts to explore the worlds of film and television alongside its video game properties. It has a formal partnership with science fiction television network Syfy to create new multi-platform properties -- IP that are conceived across the media of film, television and games simultaneously.
As the report notes, THQ executive VP Danny Bilson has a background in film and television, as co-writer of Disney's The Rocketeer. According to the report's sources, he's the one leading the dialogue with Del Toro in the aim to incorporate more of a creative filmic vision into THQ's projects.
At the time THQ signed the deal with SyFy -- a partnership that will begin with family-friendly kids' title
De Blob, and will include a television movie incarnation of
Red Faction -- Bilson
stressed the goal of working with other media. "By extending our brands to other media, we build huge awareness and momentum for our games," he said.
