Independent Danish developer Deadline Games -- the studio behind episodic game series
Watchmen: The End Is Nigh -- filed for bankruptcy last Friday.
The company issued a brief statement in which its board admitted that it is "no longer able to fulfill its financial obligations",
according to a report from gaming news site Boomtown.
Deadline first suggested that it could be facing bankruptcy last April when CFO Christian Pedersen-Bjergaard
revealed that the developer desperately needed to land a project or find a publisher for its action game
Faith and a .45, which was recently put on hold in January.
Established in 1996, the studio primarily produced games targeting the Scandinavian market, eventually establishing itself as an international multiplatform developer with third-person shooter
Total Overdose in 2005.
The first episode of its latest title,
Watchmen: The End Is Nigh, released through PC, XBLA, and PSN last March to mixed reviews. The second episode was slated to debut this July, though Deadline gave no indication whether its release will be affected by this filing.
