Developer Psyonix Studios licensed Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3 for its upcoming PlayStation Network arena-based online auto sports game,
Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars, due early fall 2008.
Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars features vehicles with physics-based maneuverability, including boosters for launching into the air or accelerating on the ground. In the air, cars can roll, flip, jump, dodge, and spin.
In the BattleBall Arena team-based soccer game, players maneuver their vehicles to perform saves, knock the ball into the goal, and crash into opponent cars.
Psyonix has previously worked with Epic Games and Unreal Engine 3 on projects such as
Unreal Tournament 3,
Gears of War, and
Onslaught: UT2004, an
Unreal Tournament 2004 gametype.
"We've been working with other studios using Unreal technology for years now," says Psyonix Studios development director Dave Hagewood. "I'm very proud to be licensing the engine for our first title developed entirely in-house and am blown away by the fact that Epic goes out of its way to make its industry-leading technology affordable for developers of games like this."
