The retail price of the PlayStation 2-based PSX DVD burner/multimedia device has been cut by up to half in Japan, only a few months after a re-launch of the format. The basic, 160Gb hard drive, model is now priced at ¥39,800 ($364), down from ¥74,000 ($677) and the high-end 250Gb version is now ¥52,900 ($484), down from ¥95,000 ($869). The format was originally launched last Christmas, to disappointing sales, and was initially touted as one of the key new products spearheading the company’s turn in fortunes. Further details of proposed launches in Europe and the US have not been commented on since.
