According to Canadian technology analysis company Semiconductor Insights Sony’s PSX multimedia device is not based on a 90nm processor, as widely touted, but a 130nm chip. The 53.5 million transistor chip is the first from Sony's restructured chip division, created under the stewardship of PlayStation overlord Ken Kutaragi. This revelation will make little difference to consumers, but does indicate the degree of trouble chip companies are having manufacturing 90nm hardware – with Intel, IBM and AMD all having suffered significant delays getting their products to market.
