Sony pulled off a two-pronged victory in Japan this week, as the PSP and PlayStation 3 captured the one and two sales spots, respectively, topping the typical weekly dominator, Nintendo DSi. Sony's PSP handheld sold 38,770 units for the week ended November 15, Japanese tracking firm Media Create said Friday. Its home console counterpart, PS3, secured a close second place with 38,498. During the prior week, PS3 outsold all other hardware with 48,925 sold during the week. PS3 sales levels were boosted in September when Sony introduced a cheaper, slimmer version of the console. This is the second week in a row that the typically front-running DSi failed to capture the top spot. For the most recent week, DSi sold 33,749 units to capture third place. Its console counterpart Wii, which has been struggling to grow sales despite a recent price cut, sold 26,764 for the week. Sales of the UMD-less PSP Go, which debuted November 1, fell to 6,427 this week from 13,992 a week ago. The rest of the Japanese hardware sales for the week ended November 15 are below: PSP: 38,770 PS3: 38,498 DSi: 33,749 Wii: 26,764 PSP go: 6,427 DS Lite: 5,036 Xbox 360: 4,124 PS2: 2,031
