PSP Leads Japanese Charts, PS3 Sees Sales Boost With Gran Turismo 5 Launch

The PSP held the top spot on the Japanese hardware sales charts this week, while the PlayStation 3 saw a large sales boost correlating with the release of the long-awaited Gran Turismo 5.
The PSP held the top spot on the Japanese hardware sales charts this week, while the PlayStation 3 closed the gap after a large sales boost, reports tracking firm Media Create. For the week ended November 28, the PSP sold 75,689 units, down from 96,601 units last week. The PlayStation 3 more than doubled its sales from last week with 68,840 units sold, tracking along with strong sales for the recently released and long-awaited PS3-exclusive Gran Turismo 5. The Wii rounded out the top three on the individual platforms chart, seeing a sales increase of more than 10,000 units. The Nintendo DS landed at number three on the combined platforms chart, thanks to slight week-to-week sales boosts for the DSi LL and standard DSi and despite a slight sales decline for the DS Lite. With the exception of the DS Lite, which dropped to number eight, the rankings of the individual platforms chart remained largely unchanged. Below are the full sales rankings from Media Create for the week ended November 7, 2010. (The second chart lumps together sales of all models in a given line of hardware.)
