PSN Gets Japanese Style-Indie Games Through Rockin' Android

Sony Online Entertainment said Wednesday that it signed a new partnership with "doujin" game publisher Rockin' Android to bring Japanese-style indie games to PlayStation Network.
PlayStation Network is getting Japanese-style indie games through a new partnership with "doujin" games publisher Rockin' Android, Sony Online Entertainment said Wednesday. SOE and Rockin' Android will collaborate on localizing, producing and releasing the doujin games, which are Japanese games created by hobbyists or indie developers. Three titles will release simultaneously on PSN in May 2010 under the deal, with Gundemonium Recollection, GundeadliGne and Hitogata Happa. All three of the titles are part of the 2D anime-inspired Gundemonium collection, a series based in the "bullet hell" genre. The games will also support PlayStation 3's remote play option. SOE director of business development Jason Herzceg said in a statement that the partnership "further strengthens our position as a leading publisher for independent titles on the PSN." Rockin' Android president Enrique Galvez said he believes the partnership will "expose many of Japan’s top indie video games to the worldwide online gaming community. This is truly an exciting time for both companies, the Japanese indie game industry and gaming consumers." Rockin' Android is based in L.A. and was established in 2009. The company has localized and published games at both retail and online. The Gundemonium series is also slated for a May release on PC, according to Rockin' Android's website.
