UK-based game research tool company Strange Agency has announced that it has signed a deal with Research and Markets Ltd. to market the firm's specialized reports, called STARs. The first report to be sold under this agreement is titled “'The Empirical Analysis of the Role Playing Game (RPG) Genre for Video Games”. The report introduces a major theme within the STAR series: the detailed analysis of the complexities of genres and sub-genres that make up industry standard genres. This STAR also introduces the related theme of cross-genre synthesis; the way in which elements of one genre can be designed into another in order to create key selling points and unique selling points. Using Strange Agency's software, Strange Analyst, the RPG genre is calculated from a sample of 272 RPG games. Standard deviations are used to identify key selling points and new games potentials. The second part of the report uses the same games analysis software to undertake an investigation into the way platform technology, PC and console in this case, influence fundamental aspects of RPG design. The report concludes with general principles of relevance to both RPG developers and publishes and the games developer community in general. Launched earlier this year, Strange Analyst is a software tool that enables developers to perform thorough competitive analysis to justify the industry potential of their game concept from the perspective of a computer games publisher. According to the company: "Strange Analyst enables developers to profile a game concept, compare it against the profiles of thousands of published games and, within seconds, analyze their successful competitors. Developers can therefore focus on creating games concepts that will succeed, pitch with greater confidence and perform months of research in just a few hours, reducing both the cost and risk of games development."
