Sweden-based Reachin Technologies has announced the release of HaptX, the company's new computer games-focused haptics engine which it says will let players "feel the details of the objects actual attributes such as surface textures, material characteristics and weight in an unprecedented realistic way". The company says the engine "embeds 10 years of the company’s R&D and know-how, adds a revolutionary new dimension of communication between the user and the computer, integrating seamlessly with next-generation graphics and physics engines." Using specialized hardware such as the Novint Falcon, the engine will let users "physically experience any game in genuine 3D," says Reachin, "since all objects can be touched and sensed freely in all three dimensions including the ability to touch and feel the top, bottom or the back side of any object." Said Reachin CEO Mats Lordin, “We are extremely proud of what HaptX represents and genuinely feel that we have paved way for a radically new and more interesting experience within computer entertainment of the future."
