NaturalMotion Ltd., the developer of animation technology based on Dynamic Motion Synthesis (DMS), has announced that it has shipped endorphin 2.7 and endorphin 2.7 Learning Edition, the latest versions of the company’s 3D character animation software. The newest version features new fluid effects support, a Maya control panel plug-in, and extended forces and torques. Endorphin 2.7 also includes a suite of tools designed to enhance workflow for animators creating realistic, fully interactive 3D character animation for games, films and broadcast production. Other enhancements to this new version include a new “stickiness” parameter that allows users to model the effect of sticky surfaces; extended support for the new Acclaim 2 file format; and a new library of standard simulation characters and prop characters, a revised endorphin User Guide, and additional tutorials for fluid, push and twist physical effects. Used by production and animation companies such as Blitz Games, Sony Computer Entertainment, EA, Namco, Capcom, Konami, Giant Killer Robots, CIS Hollywood, The Mill and Moving Picture Company , endorphin utilizes DMS, a technology based on artificial intelligence controllers that imitate the human nervous system. Unlike conventional animation techniques such as keyframing or motion capture, endorphin’s DMS technology uses the CPU to simulate the brain and body of 3D characters, which allows animators to synthesize human movements in real time. This approach produces directed and fully-interactive 3D characters with real-life movements that are unique every time; thus reducing animation asset production time.
