Officials from physics and animation solution providers Havok have announced that Lionhead Studios (Black & White, Fable
) have licensed the company's Havok Complete package for use in the anticipated Xbox 360 release, Fable 2
The announcement follows a number of other major deals for the physics middleware developer, including a partnership
with Blizzard Entertainment (World of Warcraft, Diablo
) to utilize Havok in yet-unnamed future products.
Havok has also been an essential part of many recent major console and PC releases, including Activision and Neversoft's Tony Hawk Project 8
, Ubisoft's Splinter Cell Double Agent
, and an announcement from E3
showing continued support across all consoles, including Nintendo's Wii.
Said Lionhead CEO Peter Molyneux, “Using Havok’s technology means that we don’t have to worry about finding an efficient way to do all the complex physics calculations ourselves that are required to create a huge, vibrant, real time and persistent virtual world such as the one we’re creating for Fable 2
. By using Havok, we bypass a lot of the heavy physics maths and concentrate our teams more on the creative and innovative elements of the game."
