Representatives from Kynogon, makers of AI middleware solution Kynapse, have announced a new partnership with Larian Studios (Divinity
series) that will see Kynapse used as the AI solution for Larian's as yet unannounced role-playing game.
Larian officials note that Kynapse will be used as the upcoming title's pathfinding solution, and will allow the developers to handle “complex pathfinding in very large and extremely dynamic terrains.”
Kynogon develops and markets A.I. software for real-time behavior simulation. With Kynapse, non-player characters can move around in a 3D dynamic world, understand their environment, hide, communicate, cooperate, and interact with objects.
The company's A.I. technology is currently used by a number of global developers, including Electronic Arts, Sega, Atari, Lionhead, Real Time Worlds, and Pyro Studios, as well as industry leaders such as EADS, and British Aerospace.
“It’s a next-generation game that demands cutting-edge technology,” commented Swen Vincke, managing director at Larian Studios. “We are relying on multiple top-notch middleware solutions and Kynapse was smoothly integrated with all the other external technologies we are using. In addition, our requirements for AI in the game are very challenging. We have thousands of characters running on very large and extremely dynamic terrains. Kynapse was the natural choice for our AI needs.”
