Freeverse Software announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Denmark-based game developer and tool provider OverTheEdge (OTEE) to develop games using its 3D content toolset, Unity. The Unity tool itself is available for Mac OS X, but allows Mac executables, Windows executables, and browser versions to be created in a single action from the same tool. One of the games currently in development is Big Bang Brain Games, a sequel to one of Freeverse's current offerings, while the other is a new title. Both are slated for release this year, and Freeverse indicated that it will release more details soon. The Unity engine features extensible graphics, particle effects, highly optimized scripting, the Ageia physX Engine, skinned character animation and ragdoll effects, and is already being used to produce games including GooBall, published for Mac by Ambrosia Software, and in universities such as the Parsons School of Design in New York. “We have started using Unity for two of our future games, and expect more to follow,” commented Freeverse vice president Colin Lynch Smith. “We can create games for multiple platforms that include the latest bells-and-whistles and rock-solid gameplay. No alternatives to Unity exist on the market today.”
