Perforce Software has announced today that the company's Fast Software Configuration Management (SCM) System is being used by Free Radical Design. Free Radical is best known as the developers behind the Timesplitters franchise. Perforce's SCM System tracks and manages source code, documents, and digital asset development for software production environments. Free Radical will utilize SCM to manage its digital assets for the development of games for next-generation gaming consoles. A chief reason cited by Free Radical for choosing SCM is its straightforward learning curve, which allows the developers to quickly acclimate to the system's tool set and features, and increase productivity. “The games content development market is fast-moving and fiercely competitive,” commented Karl Hilton, art director of Free Radical Design. “In order to keep ahead of the other major independent developers, it is essential that we have robust development processes in place; Perforce is a critical part of that process and the way that we work. As our asset management solution, Perforce plays a significant role in our ability to quickly produce reliable builds that can be developed, tested, and brought to market promptly, keeping us ahead of competitors.”
