Codeplay Software Limited announced that it has been granted contributor member status with the Khronos Group, an industry consortium focused on the creation of open-standard, royalty-free APIs for embedded systems. As a contributing member of the Khronos Group, Codeplay looks to be an active player in the development of OpenGLR ES 2.X shader compiler technology, which will bring cross-platform accelerated 3D and 2D graphics applications to embedded platforms. Codeplay will also be able to bring embedded graphics compilers to its customers through early access to OpenGL ES specification drafts and conformance tests. Codeplay joins other contributing members of the Khronos Group, such as Fujitsu, Mitsubishi Electric, Panasonic, and Renesas. Together, Codeplay and other contributing members will take part in working groups and vote to define the specifications for OpenGL ES standards and technology. "Codeplay has long focused on optimizing compilers to create the best user experience for graphical applications," said Andrew Richards, director and chief technical architect, Codeplay Software Limited. "By taking a leadership role with a Khronos Group membership, Codeplay is continuing to pave the way for standards and solutions that help our customers accelerate the development of dynamic, media-rich applications for the consumer marketplace."
