3D modeling software company Caligari Corporation today released truePlay, a free web Player for sharing interactive 3D objects, scenes and worlds. The software, which enables users to interact, learn and work in real-time in a photorealistic, simulated 3D space, has numerous applications, including game development. Rather than interact withing a traditional 2D workspace, truePlay creates an environment that allows participants to open, enter and interact with 3D scenes that are sent to them via conventional means such as download or email. The software also works online to allow multiple participants to join the same 3D space, so they can all meet, interact and collaborate in real-time. This will allow game developers to create game content with other distributed teams or localization vendors, or even produce mini-games or proof-of-concept demos that can be played entirely within truePlay itself. The software itself is built to provide transparent scalability on multi-core processors, as well as distribution of most operations such as physics simulation among multiple clients over the internet. Additionally, participants can record their collaborative sessions with a 3d recorder for later replay, making truePlay a useful learning and teaching aid. truePlay can also be used in conjunction with truespace7, Caligari's flagship real-time collaborative 3D authoring software, in order to allow users to both view and share information. Users can also use the software to create, manipulate and edit 3D objects in real-time within the shared virtual workspace.
