BigWorld, a provider of Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) platforms, announced that it has partnered with visibility optimization solutions provider Umbra Software to include Umbra's dPVS technology within BigWorld’s comprehensive development suite. Umbra Software’s dPVS computes visibility databases in real time, enabling BigWorld’s licensees the creation of 3D worlds that are more interactive and modifiable. The BigWorld Technology Suite is an integrated set of tools, software and systems that provides the underlying technology and content development tools required to produce an MMOG or persistent casual game. The software aims to provide operators and studios with a lower total time-to-build and cost of ownership. In addition, the BigWorld Server architecture allows operators to run several games on a single server cluster, reducing the cost of running the game, while the Content Creation Pipeline reduces the time and cost of building and filling out the complex worlds required in next-generation games. “We are delighted to announce the implementation of Umbra Software’s dPVS in our BigWorld solution,” said Gavin Longhurst, Director of Business Development for BigWorld. “This is a crucial component for sophisticated scene creation and its dynamic approach is ideally suited to the free-form visibility and camera systems used in games. More complex scenes are therefore possible, with fewer constraints and less rendering overhead.”
