As the latest video game to be made into a movie, Reuters has reported that Blizzard will bring the popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG)
World of Warcraft to movie theaters as a live action feature film.
Legendary Pictures, the production company behind both Batman Begins and the upcoming Superman Returns, will produce the film. There is currently no information as to who will star in or direct the upcoming video game adaptation, though an announcement with more details is expected later today.
In a report by the New York Times, Blizzard's VP of business operations Paul Sams noted, “...our goal is to make one of the best films in the world. With Legendary, they have a creative and management team that is so attuned with us it was like we were separated at birth”.
He continued, "We want to make a movie that will not only appeal to our existing fans, but will also bring in people that have never heard of
Warcraft before.”
World of Warcraft is currently one of the most popular MMORPGs in the world, having passed the 6 million subscriber mark in March. Blizzard and publisher Vivendi Games will show
Burning Crusade, the anticipated expansion to the PC game this week at E3.
