Phantom Entertainment, Inc. has announced a partnership with New York development company VertiCity to move its previous planned Game Service software to standard Windows XP PCs. The long-belabored company, who recently announced its plans to switch focus from its former hardware unit intended to bring downloadable games into the living room to a PC-centric service along the lines of Steam, says it intends to unveil the new service during the first quarter of 2007. It also said the switch could enable the licensing of the Game Service technology to PC and home entertainment manufacturers. Phantom also reiterated its plans to begin manufacturing its custom Lapboard peripheral, which combines a wireless keyboard and mouse with a surface, to allow for PC style gaming away from the desk, which it expects will begin shipping in November. Said Phantom CEO Greg Koler, "The Company remains committed to its original mission of delivering the first end-to-end, on-demand game service. Our course has been altered to deliver this service to PCs as well as to entertainment centers in the comfort of the living room."
