Nintendo enthusiasts have completed work on the alpha version of The Warp Pipe Project. The PC software allows LAN-enabled GameCube titles to be played online, in a similar manner to GameSpy’s Xbox tunnel. The software is compatible with Kirby Air Ride, Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and 1080° Avalanche – all of which use the GameCube’s broadband adapter to connect consoles in a local area network. The software itself works by connecting the console to a broadband connection via a PC and since it does not interfere directly with any Nintendo software shouldn’t necessarily result in any legal action. The company though has been notoriously protective of anyone attempting to sell or adapt its products in any way and it is not hard to imagine that this particular group of fans might soon be receiving a call from Nintendo lawyers.
