NPD Study: Videogame Sales Down In 2000

A report by just released by NPD states that videogame sales for the year will be 4% lower than last year.
The firm had earlier predicted a 5.4% rise in sales for the year. NPD's data, based on U.S. sales through November, indicate that 2000 will be a worse year for the industry than 1999, which saw $7.4 billion in revenue. NPD also adjusted its Playstation game sales figures, saying that PSX game sales actually fell 4% -- in contrast to NPD's earlier forecast of a 29% increase. NPD bases its conclusions on sales data collected from approximately 20 major retailers, which account for 81% of videogame sales in the U.S. NPD discovered that one retailer, whose name was not disclosed, had provided incorrect data for the entire year.
