Novint Technologies has announced that it will be releasing a free non-commercial software development kit for its Novint Falcon 3D touch feedback device that it says lets "users feel weight, shape, texture, dimension, dynamics and force effects when playing enabled games."
Novint, previously featured
in a Gamasutra Podcast, says that using the Falcon, Novint says, "players experience a full range of realistic touch sensations that allow them to control a game more naturally and intuitively."
The company hopes that the newly released SDK will let developers incorporate the device into new and existing games and applications and expand the content available for the controller. Already available, the Novint controller comes bundled with a 24 minigame Newton’s Monkey Business
and Feelin’ It: Sports Pack
Said Novint CEO Tom Anderson, “We’ve had an overwhelming number of requests to make an SDK available for the Novint Falcon and are excited to be able to offer this powerful new tool to developers. Touch adds an entirely new dimension to computing and, with the low cost of the Falcon and availability of this free SDK, we expect to see many innovative applications and games evolve.”
