In an interview with Reuters Nokia officials have stated that the company’s target for N-Gage sales is an installed base of six to nine million by the end of its first year on sale. This number is equivalent to the total sales of the GameCube and Xbox, suggesting that the marketing for the machine may change to become more bias towards its use as a mobile phone, rather than a games console.
The N-Gage’s launch yesterday had little impact in traditional game stores with many developers apparently assuming that the next iteration of the machine (rumoured to be due within just six months) will focus on Java games instead of boxed titles.
