Speaking with French newspaper Les Echos, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has claimed that the company is not interested in acquiring new development assets or competitors, but would instead prefer to build stronger relationships with external developers. In the interview, he argued that investment in a company carried no guarantee of favourable results – which could be construed as a reference to previous second party developers such as Rare, Silicon Knights and Left Field. Iwata’s comments are in contrast to Japanese press reports that the company has set up a fund specifically for acquiring new technologies and companies. Whether Iwata’s comments represent a change of heart or that the reports were simply inaccurate is unclear. Source: gamesindustry.biz
