Officials from Nintendo have confirmed that there will be no SpaceWorld event this year and that the company will not be attending the annual Tokyo Game Show. SpaceWorld is Nintendo’s own propriety show that used to be held every year in Tokyo, but which has not been held now since 2001. The Tokyo Game Show is the nearest Japanese equivalent to E3, but has lessened in importance in recent years as support from Nintendo and other companies has waned – causing the show to cancel it’s spring event some years ago. With the Nintendo DS console due to be launched this winter, officials have claimed that the company will instead choose to promote the new format through a series of roadshow events throughout Japan. According to spokesman Mitsuaki Hagishima, "We want as many of our fans in the country as possible to experience the DS before it goes on sale. So instead, we're currently planning an effective event that can be expanded to a nationwide scale." Source: gamesindustry.biz
