Nintendo Says It Would Sell Rare

In response to rumors yesterday about Microsoft interest in Rare, today Nintendo said that would consider selling its 49% stake in the UK-based studio to potential buyers, including Microsoft.
Yasuhiro Minagawa, a Nintendo spokesperson, said that Rare's importance to the company is not what it once was. "Rare is one of our subsidiaries, but its contribution to our overall sales is only about 1.5 percent now and the ratio is declining," Minagawa said. "We might consider selling Rare stakes if approached by Microsoft, or others. But even if we decide to sell the company, it won't cause any changes to our business at all."
