Nintendo's Band Brothers DX Rises To Top In Japanese Charts
The Japanese charts have just three new entries this week - but first-party DS music title Daigasso! Band Brothers DX is the number one title, with Initial D: Extreme Stage on PlayStation 3 the highest new entry.
After strong sales last week the Japanese software charts have shown a sudden slowdown, with only three new entries in the top thirty. As the number one title, music game Daigasso! Band Brothers DX sold only 47,000 units and unusually was a not a new entry, but last week’s third highest seller. The highest new entry of the week, at number two, is Sega’s racing game and anime license Initial D: Extreme Stage for the PlayStation 3. Based partially on an existing coin-op the game sold 43,000 units on its debut. The only other new entry in the top ten is Square Enix’s Nanashi No Game for the Nintendo DS, at number five with 30,000 units sold. The title’s name roughly translates as The Game with no Name and is a horror style adventure with a plot similar to the Ring novel and movie series, but featuring a cursed role-playing game. The rest of the top ten features few surprises, with titles such as Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii continuing to sell well and Monster Hunter Freedom 2 G on PSP making a reappearance at number ten with a lifetime total now in excess of 2.2 million units. The remaining new entry of the week, at number twenty-six, is the PlayStation 2 version of Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters. The game is marketed in Japan as Ratchet & Clank 5, with the usual redesign of the main characters to better suit the market.
