Nintendo Posts Q1 Profit, But Gamecube Sales Stall

Nintendo released results for fiscal Q1 today, posting a 11.5 billion yen profit ($95 million, or 85.5 yen per share) that was driven by sales of Game Boy Advance SP software and hardware.
The company reported sales of 83.8 billion yen, an increase of 5 percent over last year. Its GBA products saved the day for the company - it sold 3.24 million GBA and GBA SP units during the quarter. In contrast, Nintendo sold just 800,000 Gamecube consoles around the world during the same period, disappointing analysts and game publishers. The company maintained guidance for the year, predicting net income of 65 billion yen on sales of 550 billion yen.
