Nintendo DS Tops Japanese Charts Despite Sales Decline

The Nintendo DS topped the Japanese hardware sales charts this week despite a notable sales decline, narrowing the gap between the Nintendo handheld and the Sony PSP.
The Nintendo DS line topped the Japanese hardware sales charts this week, though its lead on the PSP diminished, reports tracking firm Media Create. For the week ended October 24, the Nintendo DS line saw a sales decline of approximately 12,000 units, and maintained its lead over the PSP by only 1000 units. All platforms experienced decreased sales this week, leaving the overall platform rankings unchanged. Of all the platforms on the list, the various versions of the Nintendo DS saw the greatest sales drop. The Nintendo Wii sold 11,971 units this week, a 1,000 unit decline from last week, despite Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition selling over 300,000 units in its launch week. Five new PlayStation 3 titles debuted in the top 10 on the software sales charts, and the platform sold 20,128 units, approximately 1,000 units less than last week. Below are the full sales rankings from Media Create for the week ended October 24, 2010. (The second chart lumps together sales of all models in a given line of hardware.)
