The Nintendo DS line returned to the top of the Japanese hardware sales charts for the week ended September 5 after the PSP's
recent sales boost, tracking firm Media Create announced Friday.
While the PSP remained on top of the individual hardware versions chart, the combined versions of the Nintendo DS overtook Sony's handheld overall.
The release of Capcom's
Monster Hunter Diary: Poka Poka Ailu Village correlated with the rise in PSP sales last week, and the title's
slower sales this week mirror the hardware's return to number two.
Across all versions of the hardware, the Nintendo DS sold 39,936 units, with the DSi LL making up the majority of its sales with 18,929 units sold, while the DSi and the DS Lite sold 16,968 and 4,039 units respectively.
Sales of all platforms other than the PSP remained consistent from last week, indicating steady hardware sales and leaving the rankings almost unchanged.
This week's leading home console was the PlayStation 3, which sold 22,227 units compared to last week's sales of 25,053 units.
Below are the full sales rankings from Media Create for the week ended September 5, 2010. (The second chart lumps together sales of all models in a given line of hardware.)
