As has been widely expected Nintendo of Europe officials have dropped the price of the GameCube from £129 ($215) to £79 (£132) in the UK - bizarrely this actually makes the portable GBA SP more expensive at £89 ($148). A price drop for the GameCube to €99 ($116) was also announced for continental Europe.
At the same time the company has added
Super Mario Sunshine,
Metroid Prime,
Mario Party 4 and
StarFox Adventures to its budget Player’s Choice line. The company will no doubt be hoping that this drop will see a similar upturn in the console’s fortunes,
as has occurred in the US. However, the UK in particular is one of the GameCube’s least successful markets and it may be that even a quadruple rise in sales will not place it above the Xbox.
In related news Nintendo Canada has reduced the price of the GBA SP from $159.99 Canadian (US $119) to $139.99 Canadian (US $105).
