After introducing a black model of the Wii console in Japan earlier this year, Nintendo is bringing the limited edition console to Europe -- but there's still no word on a North American release.
The United Kingdom will get the black Wii next, on November 6. It will follow in the rest of Europe on November 20. The bundle includes the system's standard current accoutrements -- a Wii remote, nunchuk,
Wii Sports, and
Wii Sports Resort -- as well as the addition of the Wii MotionPlus controller upgrade.
Alongside the new console bundle, Nintendo will be selling standalone black Wii controller accessories in Europe, including a new handle-equipped version of the SNES-like classic controller, the "Classic Controller Pro."
The standard Wii remote and nunchuk will be coming to North America in black on November 16, but no release of the Pro controller has been announced for the region.
Nintendo, moreso than any of its console competitors, has long used new color options as a tool to stimulate short-term hardware sales.
The color option news comes the same day as the company
revised its earnings forecast, expecting the company's first year-over-year profit decline in six years, due to slowing Wii sales and an unfavorable exchange rate.
The week the black Wii was released in Japan, Nintendo's console saw a surge in sales to nearly four times the previous week's sellthrough -- but the new option was released concurrently with Capcom's hit
Monster Hunter 3, making it difficult to conclusively measure the effect of the color choice alone.
