Nintendo has announced that it has now sold 10 million DS and DS Lite hardware units in the Americas since the handheld's launch in November 2004 - apparently the equivalent of 9 hardware units every minute.
The report
backs up specific stats in Nintendo's financial results released earlier today, with lifetime DS sales now put at 35.61 million worldwide, with 14.43 million in Japan, 10.18 million in the Americas and 11.00 million in the rest of the world.
As a comparison point to Sony's rival system, U.S. sales-tracking firm NPD (whose stats evidently differ slightly from Nintendos)
calculated that, up to the end of December 2006, the DS had sold 9.6 million units in North America, whereas the PlayStation Portable has sold 6.7 million units.
Alongside this announcement, Nintendo also announced its full line-up of first and third-party DS titles for the first 3 months of 2007, revealing a total of 20 new DS games. Highlights include first-party mystery title
Hotel Dusk: Room 215 in January, alongside Capcom's latest

Moving further along, February sees
Diddy Kong Racing DS from the Microsoft-owned Rare debut for the handheld, alongside Buena Vista's
