NewTek announced today that its industrial-strength 3D modeling software LightWave version 6.5 is now available in final form for Apple's newly released Mac OS X.
LightWave 3D is used primarily by designers in television and film production, but NewTek is trying to carve out a place for the software with game developers, as well. The company said it had a successful showing of LightWave at the Game Developers Conference, which took place last week in San Jose, Calif.
Registered owners of LightWave 6 can download LightWave 6.5 for Mac OS X immediately for Mac. A packaged product should be soon available from NewTek for a retail price of $2,495. LightWave 6.5 updates for Windows and Mac OS 9 are soon to follow, according to NewTek.
