[UPDATED: 10:09am PST] Today's regularly updated newsbriefs include the addition of a game audio award to the 23rd Annual Technical Excellence and Creativity Awards, the announcement of Canada's Fusion Forum 2007, and Exent Technologies moving its North American headquarters to downtown San Francisco. - Officials from Israeli games-on-demand provider Exent Technologies have announced that the company has relocated its North American headquarters from Bethesda, MD to downtown San Francisco. The headquarters, which is run by Exent’s recently appointed president Alan Snodgrass, oversees all of Exent’s sales, marketing and business development activities in North America, including distribution, content and advertising partners. Exent, which is best known for its technology for digital distribution of video games, recently launched its patent pending AdMuse, an in-game advertising solution that enables advertisements to be integrated into a project at any stage of a game's life cycle without the need for any changes to the game's source code. - Representatives from the Mix Foundation for Excellence in Audio have announced the debut of a new category: Creative Achievement in Sound Production for Interactive Entertainment. The new category will debut at the organization's 23rd Annual Technical Excellence and Creativity Awards, which honors outstanding achievement in professional audio production and product design. The event will be held on Saturday, October 6, at the New York Marriott Marquis, on the second night of the 123rd AES Convention. Finalists for the award will be announced in June 2007. "Interactive entertainment is no longer simply about fun and games, points out game sound veteran Gene Semel of High Moon Studios (Carlsbad, CA), chair of the steering committee for the category. Sound in interactive entertainment is both a legitimate big business and a huge part of the video game experience. This new award validates all of the hard work audio professionals put into bringing new worlds to life through sound, and we commend the TEC Awards for helping to give it wider recognition. - Officials have announced Fusion Forum 2007, the first financing forum in Western Canada dedicated to the digital media space, scheduled to take place March 28 at Vancouver’s Fairmont Waterfront Hotel. The event will aim to showcase early and growth stage companies spanning e-commerce, web development, electronic games, digital animation, digital film, software tools and interactive products. The forum will feature presentations by ten prominent North American companies with the intention of securing investment required to grow their digital media businesses. The event will also feature panel sessions, a keynote lunch, investor pitches, and a networking reception to provide companies and delegates with insights into current issues and opportunities in the industry.
