Persuasive Games founder Ian Bogost has announced that The New York Times will be publishing the studio's "newsgames," which intersect games with political cartoons, to the paper's online op-ed page as editorial content, starting with its FDA themed
Food Import Folly.
AddictingGames and Shockwave have previously published the studio's newsgames, including
Airport Security, Oil God, Bacteria Salad, and
Xtreme Xmas Shopping, but, as Bogost
points out in his blog, the New York Times deal will be the first time the games reach a general versus gamer audience.
Bogost has said that
Food Import Folly which is about "the experience of extremely limited FDA inspection on food imports," was developed in just a week's time to remain topical.
To play the games, users must be a paid New York Times 'TimesSelect' subscriber as with all of the paper's editorial content. More information on the game and Persuasive's other newsgames can be found at
its website.
