Longtime game developer Mark Caldwell, a co-founder of defunct studio New World Computing, has joined development contractor Pacific Beach Digital to serve as its CEO.
Most recently, Caldwell was the development director and executive producer at Midway's San Diego studio, which THQ last month
annouced it would buy.
Based in the San Diego, California community of Pacific Beach, Pacific Beach Digital was founded in 2005 and has served as a contracted developer on numerous recent titles including
Unreal Tournament III,
Stranglehold, and
Hour of Victory.
Caldwell served at New World, developer of the
Might & Magic RPGs and spinoffs like
Heroes of Might & Magic, from its founding in 1984 through its acquisition by The 3DO Company in 1996, at which point he continued to work on its games as a development VP for 3DO.
He has also founded short-lived San Diego-based publisher Rapid Eye Entertainment before joining Midway in 2005.
No details were given as to Pacific Beach Digital's upcoming game development plans, beyond that it will continue to offer "turn key product development and consulting."
