Representatives from NVidia have unveiled the GoForceT 3D 4500, which they claim is the world’s first 3D wireless media processor (WMP). The WMP enables high quality 3D graphics on mobile phones, PDAs and other handheld devices. The processor supports standard 3D application programming interfaces, including OpenGL-ES, D3D-Mobile, and M3G.
The GoForce 3D 4500 has already been licensed for use in the Gizmondo portable console, due to launch
this year from Tiger Telematics subsidiary Gizmondo Europe. Gizmondo and NVidia intend to distribute up to 500 software development kits by the end of the first half of 2005, for use by developers.
The mobile 3D accelerator market seems destined to become hotly contested by similar parties to PC graphic cards and console technology, with ATi’s Imageon graphics accelerator already being used in TapWave’s Zodiac portable console/PDA.
