Motorola has expressed strong support for the GSM Association's M-Services initiative to accelerate deployment and adoption of mobile Internet services within the GSM community this year by defining guidelines for creation of those services. The M services guidelines, in conjunction with the open standards initiatives of the WAP Forum, SyncML, Wireless Village, and others, are expected to accelerate adoption of wireless data services because interoperability between services and devices enhances the benefits to consumers using GPRS handsets worldwide. M-Services is expected to provide a wide array of features that are consistently available on GSM cellular networks, such as highly customizable and downloadable graphics, music, video, games, ring tones and screen savers. Motorola's GPRS product line is central to the development and adoption of solutions like those to be offered by M-Services because GPRS offers an `always on, always connected', high speed mobile data service. In addition, GPRS has the ability to connect from mobile data terminals to the mobile Internet and to IP-based company Intranets. Motorola will add M-Services developer support as part of its outreach to application developers in the Motorola Applications Global Network (MAGNET) program.
