The results of mobile market research firm M:Metric's three-month sales tracking revealed a significant decline in the marketshare of EA Mobile, among other moves.
The report tracked the three-month period ended September 2006, and was compared to the three month period ended May 2006. During this period EA Mobile's share of new paid downloads dropped from 32.2 percent to 26.5 percent. Additionally, Glu Mobile has overtaken Gameloft to claim the 2nd-ranked spot, and Namco topped Hands-On Mobile for 4th place.
News of the shifts in the marketshare came by way of independent publisher GOSUB 60, who themselves have moved up a slot in the report from the 9th position to the 8th. Some of GOSUB's titles include
Solitaire Deluxe 12-Pack, Blackjack Cheater, and
Sudoku Deluxe, with
Curious George Monkey Fun, Dexter's Lab: Brain Reaction, Camera-Phone Darts, and
Bliss due out soon.
"It's a very fluid space with a lot of close competition," said GOSUB 60 CEO Josh Hartwell, "so these rankings are constantly in flux," adding on his own company's rise, "directionally, it's certainly very encouraging."
"The business is on a solid growth path and satisfying our aggressive forecasts," said Hartwell. "At the end of the day though, we still consider ourselves a boutique publisher. It's not our goal to stuff the shelves... Right now, we've got seven active titles on the decks, whereas the other Top 10 publishers have anywhere from 22 to 93."
