Representatives from U.S. publisher and developer Midway have announced that it will be combining the operations of its Los Angeles and San Diego studios, with the Moorpark offices of Midway Studios – Los Angeles being effectively closed. The newly combined operations will be located at the offices of Midway Home Entertainment in San Diego. The closure of the Los Angeles offices is expected to be completed by September 30th, 2008. According to a press statement, the majority of Los Angeles employees will be offered the opportunity to transfer to San Diego, including the entirety of the development team for the TNA iMPACT! franchise. The company indicates that it will also be recruiting new positions in San Diego and that the combining of the two studios will allow the Los Angeles team to more easily interact with the company’s other studios in Chicago, Austin, Seattle and Newcastle, UK. Access to third party production, licensing and quality assurance groups in San Diego, was also cited as another benefit of the merger.
