Midway Gains Stranglehold On UK Sales Charts
In a busy week, with a number of major new releases, Midway’s Stranglehold has entered straight in at number one in the UK individual format charts, closely followed by fellow console exclusives Super Paper Mario and Heavenly Sword.
In a busy week, with a number of major new releases, Midway’s Stranglehold has entered straight in at number one in the UK individual format charts. The John Woo endorsed action game lost out to Electronic Arts’ multiformat Medal of Honor: Airborne in the combined format charts, having to make do with the number two spot. The top three new entries of the week are all format exclusives, illustrating in part the varying sizes of userbase for each console in the UK. After a still unexplained delay of over five months from the U.S. release, Super Paper Mario is finally launched in Europe and enters at number three in the individual format charts. Meanwhile, at number six, the heavily advertising PlayStation 3 exclusive Heavenly Sword makes its debut, the first time a PlayStation 3 title has been seen in the newly organized charts. It is joined by the belated PlayStation 3 version of Colin McRae: DiRT at number ten, whose profile is likely to be enhanced by the tragic death of Colin McRae himself over the weekend. Elsewhere in the top forty, the re-entry of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories at number thirty-five is the only evidence of the release of the new PSP Slim and Lite version of the console in the software charts, with the only other PSP in the top forty being Monster Hunter Freedom 2 at number thirty-four. The final new entry, which is likely to perform better in subsequent weeks, is Nintendo DS title Sonic Rush Adventure at number thirty-eight. Other notable movers of the week include Electronic Arts’ Rugby 08 on PlayStation 2, which rises eleven places to number nineteen following continued interest in the ongoing World Cup. Forza Motorsport 2 also sees a rise of ten places to number twenty-nine, as the result of a new promotional bundle.
