Lik Sang has taken most portions of its web site
down, and Microsoft confirmed that it had taken legal action against the firm.
Lik Sang manufactures chips which, when properly soldered onto the Xbox motherboard, can update the Xbox BIOS. The company recently acquired the rights to the work done by the OpenXbox project, and had started selling the "PC BioXX Xmod chip". Using such a mod chip, a hacker could potentially turn an Xbox into DIVX player or VCD player, run emulators for other gaming systems, or install another operating system such as Linux.
The PC BioXX Xmod chip advertised itself as a single mod chip that would work in all Xbox models around the world. However, perhaps the most dangerous to Microsoft's business was the fact that the chip allowed users to play import and copied games.
